Spanish football star Alexia Putellas has once again written her name into football history.

At the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony held in London on Monday, the 32-year-old midfielder was named the best female footballer in the world.

Putellas won the prestigious award for the third time in her career.

She previously triumphed in 2021 and 2022.

Putellas spent the 2025–2026 season with Barcelona, winning three titles with the club, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy.

The Spaniard delivered impressive performances in the Champions League, scoring seven goals and providing the same number of assists in 11 matches. She was named the tournament’s Player of the Season.

In July this year, Putellas left Barcelona and joined English club London City Lionesses.
