Barcelona have definitively abandoned plans to sign Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez.

The Catalan club’s priorities changed after Raphinha’s excellent performances in the centre-forward position and Gabriel Jesus’s successful appearances after making his debut for the team.

Moreover, the Catalans’ coffers are still empty.

Barcelona were very interested in Álvarez during the summer, but Atlético refused to negotiate the sale of one of their most important players to a direct rival.

According to Cadena SER, ahead of Sunday’s upcoming La Liga match between Barcelona and the Madrid side, the latter club’s president, Enrique Cerezo, set the striker a target—to punish their opponents by "rewarding” them with goals.
