"La Liga” president Javier Tebas officially apologized to the people of China, government authorities, and sports partners following remarks made by Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.
In an official statement, Tebas emphasized that the league "deeply regrets the Frenchman’s words, which caused discontent and offended the Chinese people.”
He added that, on behalf of "La Liga,” he would like to "sincerely apologize to the people of China.”
"For many years, we have built relationships of respect, trust, and cooperation with China — its government authorities, sports organizations, media partners, and millions of Spanish football fans.
We cannot allow one person’s actions to damage or harm these relationships.
We are taking every possible measure and working directly with our partners and stakeholders in China to resolve this situation.
Our commitment to China, its people, and its institutions remains strong.
The relationships built over so many years cannot be destroyed because of one single incident,” J. Tebas stated.
