In the Premier League, London club Tottenham defeated Crystal Palace 2–0 at home.
It was the hosts’ third consecutive victory in the league, allowing them to climb to eighth place in the table.
An incident at the start of the match essentially changed its course.
In the 13th minute, Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off after a VAR review for a dangerous foul on Micky van de Ven.
The visitors were reduced to ten men, and Tottenham soon took advantage of their numerical superiority.
In the 25th minute, the hosts took the lead. From Mohammed Kudus’s corner, Archie Gray headed the ball accurately into the net to score the first goal of the match — 1–0.
In the second half, Tottenham continued to control the game and create dangerous chances. However, Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved his team several times, preventing the hosts from extending their lead earlier.
The outcome of the match was finally decided in the 73rd minute. Following Fernandes’s pass, Jan Paul van Hecke headed the ball against the crossbar, but the rebound went in off him — 2–0.
