France Football magazine has launched an official investigation after highly suspicious bets were recorded that identically predicted the top five in the 2026 Ballon d’Or awards.
As reported by the British daily newspaper The Guardian, 12 betting accounts are currently being investigated, with bets totaling more than $264,000.
It is suspected that this was a coordinated scheme, whose participants ultimately pocketed nearly $200,000 in net profits.
The owners of all the suspected accounts managed to accurately predict the unusual order of the top five footballers.
The incredible accuracy of the predictions and the nearly identical betting patterns have raised serious suspicions among the awards’ organizers.
The investigators’ main theory is that confidential voting results may have been illegally leaked before the awards ceremony.
French police have already joined the investigation, seeking to identify the possible source of the information leak and determine whether a crime was committed and who was responsible for it.
