Portugal national team forward Goncalo Ramos commented on the scandal caused by Cristiano Ronaldo several weeks ago, when the veteran left the national team camp.
"Cristiano’s departure was strange. We were supposed to take part in training, but he was no longer there.
There was a huge commotion surrounding the national team. Everything Cristiano does, whether good or bad, always receives enormous attention.
Nothing that was being said seemed true. We did not even fully understand whether he had actually left. We could not simply ignore the situation, but neither could we prevent Cristiano from leaving the national team camp. Such matters fall under the authority of the federation’s management.
This is a situation nobody wants. I think even Cristiano himself does not approve of such a decision, but he probably had his own reasons.
Would we welcome C. Ronaldo back if he returned? Of course, he would be welcomed just as warmly as any other national team player. Surely we would not stop communicating with him because of a decision made by someone overwhelmed by emotion? Of course not. This can happen to anyone,” said G. Ramos.
