Copa del Rey tournament – a six-year-awaited triumph for Real Sociedad

In the final of the Copa del Rey in Spain, the Real Sociedad club defeated Atlético Madrid in a penalty shootout.

The decisive match took place at the La Cartuja Stadium in Seville.

Regulation time and extra time ended with a score of 2:2.

In just the 15th second, the Basques took the lead with Anders Barrenetxea.

In the 19th minute, Ademola Lookman equalized the score.

In the 45+1 minute, Real Sociedad took the lead again with a penalty converted by Mikel Oyarzabal.

In the 83rd minute, Julián Álvarez leveled the score for Atlético.

During the penalty shootout, the Basques were superior with a score of 4:3.

The decisive fifth penalty was converted by Pablo Marín.

Real Sociedad has fought for this cup for the fourth time.

The last time they triumphed was in 2020.
