The Republic of South Africa took a historic step into the World Cup playoffs.

In the last Group A match, South Africa defeated South Korea with a minimal score of 1-0 and secured second place.

The only goal of the match was scored by Thapelo Maseko in the 63rd minute.

South Korea finished third in Group A and still holds realistic chances of advancing to the next stage.
