Former Vilnius "Žalgiris" employee and football commentator Paulius Jakelis reacted to the released audit of the capital city's club "Žalgiris".
"To say that today’s published audit report of the Vilnius 'Žalgiris' football club is scandalous would be an understatement.
Simply, in broad daylight, incomprehensible things were happening. Completely inadequate bonuses, huge percentages paid to the coach for player transfers, and this is just part of everything that raises a lot of questions. It’s not even the right word how angry and sad it is when some in the club worked for peanuts from morning till night, while the manager publicly claimed how small everyone’s salaries were, how low the salary caps for players were, and how productively they were working. First of all, one wants to believe that all this will not go without serious legal consequences.
Secondly, from now on, sports organizations, especially those receiving significant financial contributions from municipalities, will at least be under some oversight. Because this is simply a crime against football," wrote P. Jakelis.
"I just want to remind you that while working with Ms. Vilma Vasiliauskaitė at Žalgiris, for some time I paid out of my own pocket for a Flickr photo archive for club needs, as I simply did not receive approval for weeks for €9.99 per month. With her, it was necessary to negotiate every single, even a couple of euros expense."
National team player Justas Lasickas reacted in the comments: "And here I am breaking my back abroad when there are such bonuses at home."
