Misfortune does not come alone. The truth of this proverb could be confirmed by the football fans of Vilnius’ "Žalgiris" team.
Yesterday, the capital's club sensationally lost 1:2 to the Mažeikiai club in the LFF Cup tournament, and the returning fans from Vilnius were involved in an accident on the road.
The "LFF Cup" is an opportunity to experience some exoticism. It’s about trips to unvisited or long-visited cities, towns, and stadiums. This year, "Žalgiris" went to Mažeikiai.
A city where the green-and-whites last visited almost 15 years ago. A city that has long been famous among "Žalgiris" fans and the club. After finishing their work, 35 representatives from "Pietų IV" and "Vakarų Frontas" headed to one of the most distant events in Lithuania. A very solid number, considering that this event was one of the longest-lasting in Lithuania. And not to mention the fact that we found out about it just 5 days before the match.
Everyone who traveled and supported "Žalgiris" yesterday deserves the utmost respect. The atmosphere in Mažeikiai was friendly and festive. Our support did not cease for all 90 minutes. Along with the locals, a hit born in Kharkiv was sung, sending greetings against the entire normal world. And there was no aggression from the locals.
This is where the positivity ends. The last green-and-whites reached Vilnius well after midnight. Because on the way home, deer blocked their path. Everyone was safe, the car will be repaired, but that was not the worst thing that happened on that trip.
The worst part was at the Mažeikiai stadium, where the festive atmosphere was created by Mažeikiai "Atmosfera," which managed to knock Vilnius "Žalgiris" out of the LFF Cup. And there’s nothing to say – they wanted to win more, their eyes burned with desire, and they won. Unfortunately, as has become customary this season, "Pietų IV" in the stands performed significantly better than "Žalgiris" on the field.
Unlike last year, neither the head coach nor the club representatives claim that "everything will be alright" or "we played well." This remains a hope that things will change.
And we are looking forward to Klaipėda. Another city long visited, where we will face... Telšiai "Džiugas." We do not expect a change in the minds of the top managers of Topliga, but we hope that the players representing the two most beautiful colors will lift their heads, that the coaches will instill that desire to fight, and victory will come,” wrote "Pietų IV" on social media.
