Real Madrid’s footballers staged an impressive celebration in the dressing room after their dramatic 2–1 victory over Barcelona: the players lifted head coach José Mourinho and threw him into the air several times.
Journalist Jesús Gallego reported this on the Cadena SER radio show El Larguero.
It is said that the unusual celebration took place immediately after the final whistle, away from the television cameras.
This episode became one of the team’s main topics of conversation both on the way to Barcelona airport and during the flight home to Madrid.
Real’s footballers celebrated José Mourinho in a similar way during the first period of the Portuguese coach’s tenure in Madrid. In 2011, the players threw their coach into the air after victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, and in 2012 they repeated the tradition after winning a La Liga match against the Catalan side.
According to the press, such behavior by the footballers suggests that José Mourinho has succeeded in restoring a good atmosphere in the team’s dressing room and establishing a strong bond with the players—something reportedly lacking under the club’s previous coaches.
