Cristiano Ronaldo sent a message to football fans around the world.

The Portuguese star was particularly delighted by the recognition of his achievement: the striker’s impressive 2008 season was voted the best in the entire history of the Ballon d’Or.

In a fan poll conducted by France Football magazine, the Portuguese beat even the legendary Lionel Messi’s 2012 season.

Ronaldo, who currently plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, celebrated the recognition on social media and emphasized that he dedicates this achievement to all the fans who supported him throughout his career.

"Football belongs to the fans! Thank you to all the fans around the world. The greatest Ballon d’Or of all time also belongs to you!” wrote Ronaldo.

The Portuguese won his first Ballon d’Or after an incredible season in English football.

Playing for Manchester United at the time, the Portuguese scored no fewer than 42 goals in 49 matches in all competitions.

His impressive performances helped the Manchester club win two of the most important titles: the English Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League trophy.
