Undoubtedly, the significantly increased number of teams and matches contributed to this record.

However, when calculating the average goals per match (2.96), it surpassed even the record-setting 2022 championships (2.68).

According to experts, the torrent of goals can also be explained by the declining skill level of the teams – strong national teams did not spare weaker opponents.
