A Lithuanian who became a sensation in old continent football, Valdas Dambrauskas, must be extremely grateful to his wife Ingrid for his success.
The woman told the journalist Linas Jocius from the portal "delfi.lt" how they went to England a couple of decades ago in search of a better life.
"Valdas spoke very little English, a bit more – I did. We both attended language courses. While doing various jobs, he constantly thought about how to get involved in football.
I remember, I worked in a bar, where there was a guy who also really loved football. I told him about Valdas, asking him how to start, how to find opportunities in football?
At that time, when we arrived in England, the internet was still in its early years, and we, coming from Lithuania, barely spoke...
Valdas will confirm, this is my idea, my initiative.
Well, and that guy mentioned that there are special coaching courses, different levels. I went home, told Valdas, and he started to get interested,” the woman recounted.
