In the 25th minute, a very beautiful goal by Iran was disallowed. During the penalty kick, Mehdi Taremi technically received the ball, and he had disarmed Thibaut Courtois. However, an offside was recorded.

Both halves started with rough episodes. In the first half, Romelu Lukaku collided with Iran's goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand, and after the break, Alireza Jahanbakhsh stepped on Leandro Trossard's foot. The referee brought out a card only for the Belgian.

After the break, Maxim De Cuyper had a great chance to score, but the Iranian goalkeeper heroically saved his team.
