Vilnius' Žalgiris achieved the sweetest victory of the season.

The last match of the 16th TOPLYGOS round took place at Darius and Girėnas Stadium. In a highly anticipated derby between the green and white teams, Vilnius "Žalgiris" proved its superiority by defeating the Kaunas team with a minimal score of 1:0 (1:0).

At the very beginning of the match, the players from Vilnius made a serious mistake near their own goal, as Amine Benchaib passed the ball to Motiejus Burbas with one touch, but the latter could not capitalize on this opportunity. The Kaunas team continued to create chances—M. Burba failed to convert another attack, and a pass toward Fabien Ourega could also have turned into a goal.

In the 16th minute, a kicked ball aimed at the far corner of the goal by F. Ourega hit the goalposts, while a more dangerous response from the guests came in the 28th minute when Deividas Šešplaukas' powerful shot had to be parried by Tomas Švedkauskas.

At the start of the second half, Tomas Švedkauskas had to react to a low shot by Brian Teixeira. With just under an hour played, the capital club broke through, as Nikola Petković scored with a header from close range after an excellent pass from Klaudijus Upstas.

During the added time, D. Šešplaukas could have added a point to the match, but the ball did not end up in the net.

After the conclusion of the 16th TOPLYGOS round, "Žalgiris" ranks eighth with 22 points, while "Kauno Žalgiris" drops to second place in the league table with 29 points.
