London Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez could be sidelined for six to seven weeks with a broken jaw.
Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo reported the news.
The Argentina goalkeeper suffered the injury during Saturday’s English Premier League match, in which Chelsea defeated Everton 2–0.
While attempting to make a save, Martínez collided with opposing defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso initially confirmed that the goalkeeper was conscious and undergoing precautionary tests at a local hospital.
It later emerged that the player had fractured his jaw and required surgery. Martínez subsequently confirmed that the operation had been successful.
