"Kauno Žalgiris" achieved a historic victory in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round. In Jonava, they defeated the Faroe Islands champions KÍ "Klaksvík" with a score of 1:0 and advanced to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League qualifying.

This victory also ensured that in the 2026/27 season, "Kauno Žalgiris" will play at least in the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League – a historic achievement for the club.

After the match, emotions and comments were shared by Leon Kreković, who scored the historic and victorious goal.

"First of all, I want to thank my family, who believed in me, for this opportunity. Also, to my wife, my child, and my agent, who always believed in me. Coming here was not an easy decision, but we achieved a historic achievement – we made it to the main stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League, and now we will fight for even more," started the Žalgiris player.

Kreković also described his emotions after the winning goal.

"To be honest, initially, I thought I was a bit on the sidelines, so I hesitated, but I knew I would receive the ball. And everything that happened afterward – that's my style. My dad always told me that when you are 16 meters from the goal, the opponents won’t touch you because they fear you. My mom also told me not to be afraid and to play my game, so that’s exactly what I did. Everyone probably thought I would shoot to the far corner, but it was a wonderful goal. The celebration with the fans was also unforgettable; I am very happy," shared the Žalgiris player.

Next week, the Lithuanian champions will begin their matches in the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifying, and we will challenge the players of Zagreb's "GNK Dinamo".
