The Italian Football Federation did not overlook the witty remark by FIFA's Gianni Infantino.

The FIFA head stated that in the future, consideration will be given to increasing the number of participants in the World Cup, and if necessary - all national teams from around the globe will be accepted, just to allow the unfortunate Italians to return to the tournament.

"That was a deplorable statement, an unforgivable mistake that hurts the feelings of the entire Italian sports community," the FIGC expressed indignantly.

Italians failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the final of the qualifying tournament following a series of penalties.
