Lithuania was shaken by tragic news – while defending the freedom of Ukraine, Lithuanian Ignas Kairys was killed.

As reported by the portal "delfi.lt", the former Marijampolė "Sūduva B" football player fell into a trap set by the Russians.

It is reported that the Lithuanian was killed after kicking a cardboard box in which a mine had been placed.

The football community also reacted to the sad news. The Marijampolė club shared a heartfelt farewell on social media.

"We remember and will remember Ignas Kairys as a person who always radiated good energy. The former "Sūduva B" player sacrificed his life defending the freedom of Ukraine and all of us from the aggressors, good from evil, light from darkness. Rest in peace, hero!" – the club's message reads.
