Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner of English football club Liverpool, has held talks over acquiring a controlling stake in the Cadillac Formula 1 team. The potential deal could be worth more than £2 billion.

According to The Guardian, FSG is one of several interested parties considering the possibility of investing in the Cadillac team.

Cadillac is currently co-owned by US automaker General Motors and TWG Global, owned by Mark Walter.

FSG is looking for new opportunities to invest in sports after selling a 38 percent stake in Liverpool. At the time of the deal, the English football club was valued at £5.5 billion.

The American investment group already owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). In addition, FSG owns a stake in RFK Racing, a team competing in NASCAR.

Cadillac, which joined Formula 1 last year, is currently experiencing a difficult debut season. The team is last in the Constructors’ Championship.
