LFF announced that there are changes in the coaching staff of the Lithuanian national team.
Edgaras Jankauskas, by mutual agreement of the parties, is leaving the position of head coach of the Lithuanian men's national team.
Today, a meeting took place at the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), where LFF President Edgaras Stankevičius, LFF Technical Director Deividas Šemberas, and head coach of the Lithuanian men's national team Edgaras Jankauskas reviewed the performance of the Lithuanian men's football team, the recent team's performances, and future prospects.
After an open discussion, a decision was made by mutual agreement of the parties to terminate the contract with E. Jankauskas.
„First of all, I want to thank the coach for his work, dedication, and efforts he has devoted to the Lithuanian national team. Over nearly four years together, we went through various stages – we had really good matches, we fought hard against the highest level European teams, and there were moments when the results did not meet our expectations. However, there was never any doubt about Edgar's dedication to the national team and his desire to achieve the best possible results.
Today we jointly assessed the current situation and came to a common conclusion that the national team needs a change. Such decisions in football are not easy, especially when we talk about a person who has devoted much of his work and energy to the national team. I thank Edgar for his professional collaboration, for his contribution to Lithuanian football, and I sincerely wish him success in his future career,“ said LFF President Edgaras Stankevičius.
„I want to thank my coaching staff, all the national team players, the staff, the fans, and especially the „Vytis tribune“ and the leadership of the Lithuanian Football Federation. These four years at the helm of the Lithuanian men's national team were not easy, but I always believed in the team and put in all possible efforts to achieve the best result. By mutual agreement with the federation leaders, we agreed today that changes are necessary. I wish the national team and Lithuanian football all the best and the greatest success,“ said Edgaras Jankauskas.
The coaching staff will also not continue working with the national team. Information about the coach who will lead the Lithuanian men's national team in the upcoming matches will be announced shortly.
