Time for Change: LFF Must Make an Important Decision Regarding E. Jankauskas © lff.lt

Currently, decisions should be made at the headquarters of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF).

After the loss to Azerbaijan away, it is almost clear that the Lithuanian national team will not meet the second goal set for 2026 – to triumph in League D of the Nations League.

This will be the second goal that will not be achieved under the leadership of Edgaras Jankauskas, so, probably, separation is inevitable.

Edgaras Jankauskas has been leading the Lithuanian national team for six years, with a break, and it is worth noting that during those years there were many positive matches and results, excluding the start of the 2018 World Cup, the second "term” that followed the match with the Netherlands, a victory away against Bulgaria, and just in many cases positive play.

However, football is about results, and the result was needed here and now, when there was still a chance to qualify from League D to the additional "2028 EURO” qualifying round. It was necessary to prove to everyone in League D that this is not our place and to be the best, but it was lacking.

In the history of the Nations League, Lithuania has lost the most matches – 20. Of them, 12 were with Edgaras Jankauskas, who has lost more matches as a coach in this quite young tournament.

The results speak for themselves.
