The Lithuanian national team, scoring two goals, started successfully in the Nations League.

The Lithuanian national men's team started their performance in the UEFA Nations League tournament on Thursday evening.

In the first match, Edgaras Jankauskas' trainees defeated Liechtenstein football players 2:0 (0:0). Now the Lithuanians are waiting for a home match against Azerbaijan on Sunday.

In Thursday's match, as expected, the Lithuanians had more ball control from the first minutes and were crafting attacks towards the opponents' goal. However, both Gvidas Gineitis' and Pijus Širvio's attempts were saved by the opponent's goalkeeper, so the teams went to rest with the score tied at 0:0.

After the break, the Lithuanians continued to dominate with the ball, and their efforts were finally crowned with a goal when Lukas Michelbrink made a great run, overcoming the opponent’s defense, sending the ball into the net, and thus opening his scoring account for the Lithuanian national team.

Soon, the situation for the Lithuanian team became even better when Artūras Dolžnikov marked his return to the national team with an impressive long shot into the top corner of the goal, doubling the guests' advantage.

In the remaining time, the Lithuanians had several opportunities to score but were unable to do so; however, the final whistle from the referee confirmed the victory for the Lithuanian team.

Other Lithuanian national team rivals also played their first matches during this window. On Wednesday, Azerbaijan won 1:0 at home in a friendly match against Tajikistan, while Andorra lost 1:2 at home to Malta in the Nations League opener.
