Newcomer A. Tanghe from Kauno Žalgiris: 'I want to help the club take steps forward'

"Kaunas Žalgiris" football club has already started the squad building work for the 2027 season. The reigning Lithuanian champions, preparing for the most crucial part of the season, have reached an agreement with 27-year-old defender Anton Tanghe, who spoke about the club’s high ambitions, personal goals, and first impressions of Lithuania in his first interview.

"I am happy to be here. I flew from Brussels to Vilnius, and then we drove to Kaunas, so I noticed again that Lithuania is a very beautiful country with a lot of nature, which I really like. This will be a new challenge for me – it is a team currently fighting for the title, playing in Europe, so it will be a good challenge for both me and the club," shared Tanghe.

The Belgian, who is tasting the bread of a legionnaire for the first time, also mentioned the goals of this career stage and highlighted the high ambitions of "Kaunas Žalgiris."

"First, I noticed that the club really wants me to come here. It is important for a player to feel that the team wants you. As I mentioned, the most important thing is that the club competes for the title every year, has European matches, and wants to take steps forward, so I want to help make that happen and also develop personally," added the defender.

In official matches, Tanghe will be able to debut with "Kaunas Žalgiris" in 2027, as he became a free agent at the beginning of September when the transfer window was already closed.

"It really wasn't a difficult situation because, as I mentioned, the club wanted me to come here, so I see this situation as a positive thing since I now have a few months to get used to this country, life here, and the team. I want to get to know the players, the team's playing style, so I will use this period for adaptation to be ready for the upcoming season," emphasized Tanghe.

The former member of the Belgian youth national teams successfully passed the medical check-up in Lithuania on Monday, signed the contract with the club on Tuesday, and joined the team's training on Wednesday.
