The famous forward Cristiano Ronaldo is being approached again to return to the Portugal national team.
However, the legendary player is being invited not for sporting reasons.
“L'Equipe” reports that the heads of the Portuguese federation have begun to worry about the dwindling number of fans for the team on social media.
The national team generates around 120 million euros in revenue each year, and C. Ronaldo is one of its key commercial faces.
The player's personal brand is valued at approximately 850 million euros.
Therefore, experts believe that revenues from sponsorship, merchandise, and broadcasts could decline without C. Ronaldo.
According to the press, the most favorable scenario for the federation could be the forward's return to the national team, followed by a ceremonial farewell match held in his honor, which would help preserve the federation's reputation and protect commercial interests.
