The legendary Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois's World Cup ended sadly. Due to a muscle injury, the goalkeeper was substituted in the 71st minute of the match, and later his replacement, Senne Lammers, made a serious mistake, leading Belgium to a 1:2 defeat against Spain in the quarterfinals.

Courtois revealed after the match that he could have played, but without kicking the ball far into the field. However, coach Rudi Garcia decided to make the substitution.

The Belgian also spoke about his future with the national team.

"I would like to take a year off without any matches for the Belgian national team, and then start playing in the knockout stages of the European Championship and participate in the 2028 championship.

Still, I don’t know if Belgium will agree to that,” said the 34-year-old veteran after the match against Spain.
