The new coach of Kaunas Žalgiris, Željko Obradović, has already had his first match with the team. It took place in the TOP LIGA, where they failed to overcome Telšiai "Džiugas" in an away game.

The club president, Mantas Kalnietis, revealed that the contract with the coach is signed until the end of the next season.

"We have a contract until the end of this year and for the next season as well," M. Kalnietis said to Eurofootball.lt.

The president of Kaunas Žalgiris also mentioned the arguments for choosing this candidate.

"I would start by saying that when we were looking for a coach, we wanted it to fit our club philosophy. From the very beginning, we wanted to be that team that scores a lot of goals, dominates the field, uses pressure, so the candidates were chosen based on these criteria.

If we ask coaches and players to be brave, not to choose safe options, then I personally, along with the whole organization, wanted a coach who, despite his risks, has seen more and this gives us the opportunity to learn more, to create a broader picture of football, rather than choosing the option that is more moderate for us but remains at the same level. We wanted something that has not been seen in Lithuania before," said the former basketball player.
