With just over a week until the start of the 2026 World Cup, interest in this historic sports event will soon reach its peak.
This year's championship will officially become the largest national team tournament in football history – 48 teams will participate, and a total of 104 matches will be played.
It is natural that the significantly increased number of matches will lead to much higher overall FIFA revenues.
Out of the projected $11 billion for the commercial cycle, $2.693 billion will come from company sponsorship agreements.
This is an impressive 53.5% increase compared to the previous tournament cycle.
Television broadcast rights still remain the main source of revenue, but their earnings have only increased by 29.2% compared to the 2019-2022 cycle.
International corporations continue to dominate cash flows: it is expected that during the 2023-2026 period, sponsors will account for as much as a quarter of all FIFA business revenues.
The strategic decision to hold the championship in North America helped attract well-known American companies that did not participate as sponsors in the previous tournament.
