G. Infantino: The 64-team championship will provide more motivation for smaller countries. © scanpix

FIFA president Gianni Infantino continues to talk about potential changes to the World Cup.

According to the football official, it is quite realistic that fans will see 64 teams in the tournament in four years.

"We see that the quality of the teams is very high and constantly growing around the world.

If we, as FIFA, do not provide smaller countries the opportunity to compete in the World Cup, they will lose motivation to continue climbing to the top.

For example, in the last championships, only five African teams competed, while this year even nine out of ten made it to the knockout stages,” stated G. Infantino.

The upcoming championship will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
