As footballers travel across Europe playing in an intense UEFA Nations League match schedule, several prominent athletes have already suffered injuries. A few of them had to leave their national team camps early and return to their clubs.
Kylian Mbappé (France)
K. Mbappé suffered an injury during the UEFA Nations League match on Friday, where France defeated Turkey 1:0.
The Real attacker scored the only goal of the match, but soon after that, he injured his left knee. The French player attempted to continue playing but was substituted in the 58th minute.
Spanish media reports that K. Mbappé may not play for about two weeks.
Jamal Musiala (Germany)
J. Musiala did not even appear on the field during the match between Germany and the Netherlands, which ended in a 1:1 draw.
The Bayern Munich star was supposed to start Jurgen Klopp's first match as head coach of the German national team, but during the warm-up, he felt pain in his thigh and was removed from the starting lineup.
Subsequent tests confirmed a muscle injury to the right thigh.
The player has already returned to Bayern to begin rehabilitation. It is reported that he may not play for about 3–4 weeks.
Kai Havertz (Germany)
In the same match against the Netherlands, the German national team suffered another painful blow - just 30 minutes into the game, K. Havertz was forced to leave the field.
After a collision with an opponent, the Arsenal forward felt pain in his thigh and was substituted.
The German Football Association later confirmed that K. Havertz would leave the national team camp and miss the remaining matches of this international break.
Brian Brobbey (Netherlands)
B. Brobbey's appearance for the national team lasted only 35 minutes.
During the match against Germany, the Sunderland forward grabbed his hamstring, and after receiving medical assistance, he was replaced by Mexx Meerdink.
A hamstring or posterior thigh muscle injury is suspected, but the exact nature and severity of the injury have not yet been confirmed.
The player has returned to Sunderland, where he will undergo additional tests. He will miss the remaining matches for the Netherlands during this international break.
Alexander Isak (Sweden)
A. Isak played the full 90 minutes in Sweden's match against Romania, which the Swedes won 2:1. The Liverpool forward also scored the first goal of the match.
However, after the final whistle, it was noted that the player was feeling discomfort.
During the game, an opponent stepped heavily on his foot, causing it to start bleeding. Although A. Isak did not mention the incident after the match, he later left the Swedish national team camp and returned to Liverpool for additional tests.
Eric Garcia (Spain)
E. Garcia was removed from the Spain starting lineup at the last moment before the UEFA Nations League match against England at Wembley Stadium.
The Barcelona defender was supposed to play as a right-back, but during the warm-up, he felt pain in his left knee. Just before the start of the match, he was replaced by Marc Pubillas.
After tests, it was decided to release the player from the national team camp. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that this decision was made to avoid further risk.
Patrick Dorgu (Denmark)
P. Dorgu was also forced to leave the UEFA Nations League match against Wales early.
The Man Utd full-back spent less than 30 minutes on the field. After receiving medical assistance, he limped off the pitch, and was replaced by Mohamed Daramy.
The nature and severity of the injury are currently unknown.
Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)
C. Gakpo became another famous victim of the international break injuries.
The Liverpool forward was forced to leave the pitch just 17 minutes into the Netherlands vs. Serbia match after a rough action by Sasa Lukic.
Initially, C. Gakpo tried to continue the match but ultimately signaled to the bench that he could no longer play.
The exact severity of the injury and the expected rehabilitation period have not yet been announced.
