Lionel Messi scored his seventh goal in this championship during Friday's match against the Green Turtle, making it the 20th goal for the Argentine across all championships. He leads his closest pursuer Kylian Mbappe in this category.

With this goal, the 39-year-old forward achieved a unique record.

L. Messi became the first player in World Cup history to score in every stage of the tournament – from each group stage match, to the newly introduced Round of 16, and on to other knockout stages.

Argentina overcame the Green Turtle 3:2 after a tough battle and advanced to the Round of 16.
