Vilnius' Žalgiris ended unsuccessful performance in Europe

In the second round of the UEFA Conference League group stage, "Žalgiris" lost 0:2 to Northern Ireland champions "Linfield" away and completed their appearance in this season's European competitions.

The hosts scored a goal at the beginning of the match, increased their lead in the first half, and maintained it later.

In the return leg, G. Matulevičius and V. Radenovičius, who missed the first match due to suspension, returned to the starting lineup.

In the first half, both teams had their chances, but the hosts were more active, managing to score 2 goals after several shots on target.

Already in the 6th minute, after a scramble, the opponents took the lead - J. Mulgrew directed the loose ball into the net.

In the 15th minute, after a corner taken by B. Tavares, J. Kendyš headed the ball, but the Northern Irish defense dealt with the danger.

In the 22nd minute, Žalgiris' goal was defended by C. Olsesas, who saved a penalty taken by C. Shields.

In the 33rd minute, the Northern Irish champions doubled their advantage - K. Offord scored with a long shot.

During added time of the first half, K. Offord tried his luck in the penalty area once again, but C. Olsesas played confidently.

In the 74th minute, C. McKee headed the ball towards the goalkeeper.

In the 81st minute, another dangerous attack from the hosts followed - M. Fitzpatrick headed the ball, but C. Olsesas saved his goal.

In the 85th minute, N. Mihajlovičius shot towards the goal, but his shot was blocked by the Irish defenders.

The return to the domestic front is already on Monday, August 4, when Žalgiris will host "Kauno Žalgiris" at 20:00 at home.
