Football fans heard an interesting piece of news.
LNK television interviewed the mayor of Vilnius, Valdas Benkunskas, who revealed that the number of seats in the under-construction National Stadium might increase.
According to the politician, if additional space becomes available, the arena's seating capacity will rise from 15,000 to 19,000.
At the same time, there will be an evaluation of the possibility of expanding the seating capacity of the nearby basketball arena (from 5,500 to 8,000).
V. Benkunskas stated that even if the changes are approved, the project's cost will not increase by a single cent.
Meanwhile, Vilnius council member Aleksandras Nemunaitis claims on social media that the changes will depend on possible project delays and the reluctance of "Hanner" CEO Arvydas Avulis to pay a fine of 1 million euros per month. The postponed project is said to help avoid fines. Another version is that there is a desire to generate more revenue from the project.
