The mayor of Vilnius, Valdas Benkunskas, announced a fantastic piece of news for football fans on social media – the European Commission has sent a positive conclusion regarding the controversial construction of the National Stadium.

"Today I have good news. While various actors were engaging in politics, lying, and manipulating, my team and I worked tirelessly to move this stalled project from a standstill and finally bring it to successful completion.

I just received news from the European Commission confirming that the project is approved. This demonstrates its transparency, legality, and we can proceed with its implementation.

Every cent has been accounted for, all procedures have been verified, and, in the end, I believe this is the most examined and scrutinized project in Lithuanian history. Ultimately, there are no more questions.

The EC’s approval is an undeniable, ironclad stamp of approval for the project’s transparency. We can finally resume construction work and complete this project for good,” said V. Benkunskas.
