The match in the round of 16 of the World Club Cup between Chelsea and Benfica will long be etched in the memories of football fans.

However, not for good reasons.

With just a few minutes left until the end of regular time, referee Slavko Vinčičius suspended the match for an exceptionally long time due to weather conditions.

After more than two hours of interruption, a handful of remaining spectators in the stadium witnessed Chelsea's triumph (4:1) during extra time.

After the match, it was counted that the game kept fans waiting for nearly 5 hours, making it the longest in football history.

However, accounting for unofficial matches with show elements, this title still belongs to a charity match between the Portuguese and the English, which lasted more than 7 days.
