The head coach of the England national team, Thomas Tuchel, commented on his decision not to include Trent Alexander-Arnold in his squad for the friendly matches:

"It was a sporting choice. It was difficult and perhaps a bit unfair.

There’s no question about his talent, there’s no question about this footballer’s career and what he can bring to the team."

"I know there’s a lot of uproar when you leave such a player out.

We had a conversation with T. Arnold and I had to explain this situation to him. He just had to accept it."

The England national team will play friendly matches against the Uruguay and Japan national teams.

The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19.
