Surprise in the Asian Cup: Iran eliminates Japan

The nominal favorites of the Asian Cup Japan left the tournament earlier than expected.

In the quarterfinals, Iran dramatically defeated Japan 2-1.

The match started positively for the favorites - Morita scored in the first half.

After the break, Mohammad Mohebi equalized and the game became more intense. Eventually, the decisive factor in extra time was Alireza Jahanbakhsh, whose penalty kick from 11 meters was accurate.

In the Asian Cup, Jordan, Iran, South Korea, Qatar, and Uzbekistan national teams remain. The last two will play in the quarterfinals.
