Sūduva overcame Žalgirio's oppressors

Marijampolė's "Sūduva" defeated the Suwalki "Wigry" team 3:2 (2:2) in their fourth friendly match ahead of the start of the official 2026 season.

A couple of weeks ago, the Poles had beaten Vilnius "Žalgiris" 2:1.

The hosts of the Marijampolė football arena started the match with Giedrius Zenkevičius, Žygimantas Baltrūnas, Aleksandras Živanovičius, Markas Beneta, Henry Uzochukwu, Faustas Steponavičius, Domantas Antanavičius, Steve Lawson, Enestas Stočkūnas, Emmanuel Agbor, and Lucky Tomas. In the second half, after substitutions, Ignas Plūkas, Titas Milašius, Pijus Bičkauskas, Amadou Sabo, Sidy Sanokho, Ibrahima Seck, and Yusuke Omori, who is participating in the trial, came onto the field.

"Sūduva" took the lead fairly quickly in this match - in the 17th minute, after a corner, "Wigry" player Bartosz Guzdek sent the ball into his own net with a header.

In the 24th minute, after Emmanuel Agbor's pass, Faustas Steponavičius, who escaped one-on-one with the Polish goalkeeper, confidently doubled the score.

Unfortunately, in the 38th and 43rd minutes, the same B. Guzdek, who had two chances, equalized the score.

The decisive moment came in the 56th minute, when a beautiful "Sūduva" attack was completed with an accurate shot by S. Sanokho from the right flank after a pass from F. Steponavičius.

The preparation for the season will conclude for the Marijampolė team with a match against the Latvian "Daugavpils" on February 14 at 2 PM.

The first match of the 2026 "Top League" for "Sūduva" is scheduled to take place on February 22 at 1 PM away against "Panevėžys." The first match in Marijampolė is planned for March 1 at 2 PM against "Šiauliai."
