Legendary Netherlands national team player Ruud Gullit revealed why he did not vote for Lamine Yamal in the Best Young Player awards:

"Why did I not vote for Lamine Yamal in the Kopa Trophy awards? Voting for a player in this award means adding extra emotional weight to a young player.

Meanwhile, L. Yamal no longer needs that; the Spaniard has already gone through that. That's why I cast my vote for the PSG young player Desire Doue."
