The Vilnius "Žalgiris" club reacted to a chant from its fan group "Pietų IV" during a match in Panevėžys, where they called out, "For the city, for the club, for a country without foreigners."

In an official statement, the capital's club wrote: "Considering the discussions that have arisen regarding the fans' chant heard during the men's team match in Panevėžys, the football club 'Žalgiris' wants to remind everyone of the fundamental values of the club."

The club's activities are based on respect, unity, tolerance, transparency, and the principles of fair play – both on and off the field.

"Žalgiris" matches and the club community have always welcomed and will continue to welcome all those who love football and support Vilnius "Žalgiris" – regardless of their nationality, race, religion, gender, or other personal characteristics.

Similarly, "Žalgiris" does not categorize its players by their nationality or origin – each footballer wearing the "Žalgiris" jersey is a member of our team and club community.

The club understands that what happens during "Žalgiris" matches is inevitably associated with the club itself, therefore it views the situation seriously. This evening, the club's leaders will meet with representatives of "Pietų IV," listen to their position, and discuss the situation that has arisen," the statement concluded.
