Current FIFA president Gianni Infantino will need a miracle to remain in office – the Swiss man is feeling increasing pressure to step down from his position.
The decisive blow to the scandalous official could come during the presidential elections taking place in March next year.
As reported by the English press, the most realistic candidate to take over the FIFA presidency could be Canadian Victor Montagliani.
The 60-year-old CONCACAF president and FIFA vice president has significantly contributed to hosting the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, and he also restored CONCACAF's reputation after the "FIFAGate" scandal.
Due to his experience and good relationships with federations from different continents, the official is considered a potential compromise candidate.
To become FIFA president, one needs to gather 106 out of 211 votes. V. Montagliani would likely have the support of CONCACAF and UEFA, but the decisive votes may come from the federations of Africa, Asia, South America, and Oceania.
So far, V. Montagliani has not officially announced his candidacy, but if he decided to run, he could become the first Canadian FIFA president.
