The head coach of the German national team, Julian Nagelsmann, commented on the chances of Girona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen to play in the World Cup:
"The chances for such a scenario are very, very slim, because you have to look at the overall situation.
He hasn't played for about a year and then suffered another injury. Also, M. ter Stegen has played very few matches."
"This goalkeeper needs to focus entirely on rehabilitation... But he is no longer 21 years old. He has only a few matches to his name.
I am still keeping my fingers crossed for M. ter Stegen's success, but we all have to remain patient."
Marc-André ter Stegen has been satisfied with the role of a backup goalkeeper in all major tournaments.
The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19.
The German national team will meet the teams of Curaçao, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador in the group stage.
