Argentina's national team head coach Lionel Scaloni commented on Lionel Messi's chances of playing in the World Cup and his future:

"That is a question for him. I don't have an answer. You already know what I think.

I want L. Messi to be with us, but he is the only one who decides.

He has earned the right to make a decision with a clear conscience."

"My contract extension is not a priority. My agent is talking to the president of the national team, but right now all the focus is on the upcoming tournament."

Lionel Messi himself has not publicly announced his decision regarding participation in the championship taking place this summer.
The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19.
