After the unexpected separation between Enzo Maresca and London’s "Chelsea," the reasons why this could have happened became clear.
"Chelsea" club executives were not always convinced about the Italian's work.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, E. Maresca had several disputes with the club management over player choices on the field. Some players were wanted by the executives to start, and questions also arose regarding substitutions during matches.
The strong-willed former "Chelsea" coach was dissatisfied with the executives' desire to intervene in tactical decisions. As a result, he felt that the club wanted to artificially inflate the value of certain players, and there were far more problems than the fans or journalists outside could see.
David Ornstein from "The Athletic" added an interesting detail.
During the season, E. Maresca informed the "Chelsea" club executives about ongoing talks with representatives from "Manchester City" regarding a possible move to the rival camp, should a position open up in the former Italian's team. Pep Guardiola has been linked with a departure, and the "citizens" were exploring options.
The former "Chelsea" strategist communicated this to his club management three times. Subsequently, "The Athletic" also named him as one of the main candidates to replace P. Guardiola next summer.
According to the English press, the London club will seek to immediately replace the dismissed 45-year-old specialist.
