A sensational result was recorded in the second round of the English Football League Cup tournament.

Playing at home, the League 2 representative Grimsby Town eliminated the Man Utd club after a series of penalties.

During regular time, the hosts had taken a 2:0 lead, but goals from B. Mbeumo and H. Maguire allowed the "Red Devils" to force the penalty shootout, which ended 12:11 in favor of the Grimsby players.
