In Group A, Germany fought for an important victory, defeating Northern Ireland 1:0 away.

The winning goal was scored by Nick Woltemande in the 31st minute. After this victory, the Germans rose to first place in the group.

France, on the other hand, played to a 2:2 draw with the Icelandic national team.
