Panevėžys crushes A League outsiders on the road

Another match of the 20th round of the "TOPsport A League" took place at the Alytus city stadium. It featured the teams DFK "Dainava" and "Panevėžys," both coming off recent defeats. From the very start of the match, the Panevėžys players dominated, securing a confident victory of 3:0 (2:0).

The guests from Panevėžys, experiencing a series of three consecutive defeats, played very actively from the beginning of the match. In the opening minutes, Faustas Steponavičius attempted a shot near the goal, while Ariagneris Smith and Justinas Januševičius each rattled the goalpost.

The first goal came in the 11th minute when Abdoulas Dante took advantage of the confusion in the penalty area to outsmart the Alytus goalkeeper Airidas Mickevičius.

"Dainava's" problems did not stop with that single conceded goal—Rokas Rasimavičius was fouled in the penalty area and won a penalty kick, which A. Smith, having scored his second goal of the season, converted.

During the remaining time of the first half, Dainava struggled to create threats at their opponents' goal. Gustas Zabita and the team's new signing Manyumowas Acholas tried their luck from distance, but their shots went wide.

After the break, coach Mergeno Orazovas's players were more active—the Alytus team spent more time in the opponents' half, and a strong shot from Denys Zhevzhikov was blocked at the last moment by Strahinja Kerkezas. Later, another shot from D. Zhevzhikov was caught by Vytautas Černiauskas.

As the match was coming to an end, Lucas de Vega sealed the fate of the game by scoring the third goal for Panevėžys.

Breaking their losing streak, the Panevėžys players with 25 points caught up to "Žalgiris" from Vilnius in 5th place, while Dainava remains at the bottom of the league with 10 points.
