The head of the FIFA referees committee, Pierluigi Collina, expressed his satisfaction with the successfully implemented innovation.
In the world club cup tournament taking place in the USA, TV viewers can see a unique perspective – the occasional broadcasting of the match progression from the referee's viewpoint.
According to the Italian, this innovation will not be forgotten in the future.
"The feedback regarding the decision to attach cameras to the referees' bodies exceeded our expectations.
We thought it would simply diversify the broadcasts, but we received excellent comments.
People even asked us why there were no 'referee cameras' in some matches. They also inquired if this innovation would appear in other sports as well.
Moreover, the captured footage can be used not only for the entertainment of regular viewers but also for the training purposes of other referees.
Seeing the footage makes it clear why the referee might have missed one moment or another – he simply didn't see it," stated P. Collina.
