The Vilnius "Žalgiris" club, which started the A league season tragically, has managed to win only 3 matches in 10 games and is currently sitting in seventh place in the tournament standings.
However, the team defending the championship title likely does not plan any radical changes in the coaching position just yet.
According to Vilnius city council member Aleksandras Nemunaitis, there is practically no chance of this happening for a rather peculiar reason.
"The dilemma: when the champions of the football league occupy only 7th place out of 10 teams in the new season, shouldn't the club's leaders at least consider changing the coach... But they can't... Because the club's president and the coach... are a couple!"
What is my concern? It is that the Vilnius Municipality has allocated this club 1 million euros per year for 3 consecutive years, and now they will allocate 1.5 million euros per year over the next 3 years, while the Sports Department of the municipality refuses to provide evidence that it is controlling the proper use of that money.
On the contrary, the audit report from the municipality's auditor states that the Sports Department does not control whether the support is used as promised in the application. If they don't provide me with reports, I can really imagine anything I want. For example, that the money is just being spent and that's it. Because on the scale of Lithuanian football clubs, receiving 1.5 million euros more than other clubs and being in 7th place... Raises many questions,” wrote A. Nemunaitis on social media.
